ranthambore national park safari

Ranthambore is a park that is rich in size, history and game. Located in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, the park covers an area of 392 square kilometers; making it one of the biggest in. Historically, the park has been considered as a hunting ground for the Maharajas tribe that has inhabited the Jaipur since time immemorial. Its wide variety of animal species has made it a source of food, leather and other human material needs that can be gained from game. With time, the fear of extinction of species and encroachment of humans led to the renovation and rehabilitation of the park for tourism and photography.

For a tourist or visitor on a Ranthambore National Park safari, there is just about anything that can excite any person of any interest. The most notable features of the park are outlined below.

Wildlife

The dominant animal in Ranthambore is the tiger. The tigers in this park are known for their huge size and outstanding hunting abilities. Currently, the tigers have different skin color schemes due to an interesting inter mating that occurred a few years ago. A tigress called Macchli that was known for her fish like colors mated to produce young ones with differentiated skin tones. These young ones continued mating and thus they continued differentiating the skin tone. For tourists who are interested in tiger tours in India, the famous tiger stories that have now become synonymous with Ranthambore are bound to offer the climax of the tour. They involve tiger trails and watching one or two tigers for a long time to the point that one can get to understand the tiger’s life completely.

Apart from the tigers, there are other prey animals that complete the ecosystem. The park also has a variety of bird species (up to 270 species). This makes it an attraction site for bird watchers too.

The Sanctuaries and Ranthambore Fort

The park itself was famed for being a sanctuary for tigers. In 1955, it was set aside by the government as a sanctuary for tigers. However, with time, many smaller sanctuaries grew around the main one. These sanctuaries include the Mansingh, Bharatpur and Kaila Devi sanctuaries; all of which are home to tigers and other types of wildlife. A tourist can choose to visit a single sanctuary or visit a number of them within a single tour.

Botany

The major and most exciting botanical activity in Ranthambore revolves around flowers. Generally, the vegetation is composed of deciduous species. But when the time of the year is wet enough, most of this vegetation flowers to give the whole park a beautiful view from an aerial and horizontal view point. Botanists find the park very captivating during such times as they can explore up to 539 different species of flowers.
