Noted among the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Annual migration of Wildebeest in Kenya is the most exhilarating East African safari event that tops the list of a wildlife spectacle like no other. This annual natural event takes place between the months of July to September and involves millions of wildebeest accompanied by hundreds of zebra, antelope species of gazelles, impala and elands with their newly-born young as they attempt to cross the vast Tanzania’s Serengeti plains northwards into Kenya’s Masai Mara National reserve in search of food and water. This tough yet clockwise journey driven by age-old instincts and the dwindling grass plains covers an enormous distance of 1800 miles, and is estimated to contribute to the loose of life for over two thousand wildebeest. The impressive sight of migration in Kenya Masai Mara is centred on the crossing of the Grumeti River in Tanzania and the Mara River in Kenya, where thousands of crocodiles lie in wait for weak ungulates and feeble animals unable to withstand the heavy currents of the already swollen rivers.

The Mara North Conservancy (MNC) is a stunning private wilderness area of more than 30,000 hectares (74,000 acres). The Conservancy is a vital part of the Masai Mara ecosystem as it forms the north-western zone, bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve in the south of Kenya.

The Mara North Conservancy is a not-for-profit company. The Conservancy is a partnership between twelve member camps and 788 Maasai landowners. The aim is to create a best practice, world-class Conservancy with long-term commitments to the environment, wildlife, and local communities.

The Conservancy is one of the most populated wildlife areas within the Masai Mara. It is home to the Leopard Gorge, a vital birthing and maternity ground for the big cats made world famous by the BBC's Big Cat Diary, as well as the scenic Lemek Hills, an important refuge to highly threatened African wild dogs. During the Loita Hills migration (December to May), thousands of local wildebeest come to the Mara North Conservancy.

Professional wildlife and tourism management ensures guests of a truly exclusive and private safari experience with a very low vehicle density.

This 7 Days safari takes you to the magical Masai Mara Game Reserve and also to Mara North Conservancy which gives you the opportunity to witness the Great Wildebeest Migration in two different parts of the Mara Eco System.

Everything about this reserve is outstanding. The wildlife is abundant and the gentle rolling grasslands ensure that animals are never out of sight. Birds, too, are prolific. You will guided by the expert driver guides to spot the big five game among other like, Thomson’s and Grant's gazelle, Topi and Eland and many more species of plains' game offer a rich choice of food for the dominant predators; lion, leopard and cheetah which hunt in this pristine wilderness. In the Mara River, hippo submerges at the approach of a vehicle only to surface seconds later to snort and grumble their displeasure. Seemingly, the drowsy crocodile sunbathe on the riverbanks, mouth agape, and waiting with subtle cunning for prey at which to strike with lightning swiftness.

River Crossings Targeted

Masai Mara provides so much game viewing, that we do not have a set itinerary for each day. We will obviously target any migration river crossings that are occurring. Our guides will be in radio contact with other guides at all the known crossing points and we are less than 2 hours from any of these. (The animals mass on one bank and generally take quite some time plucking up courage to actually cross). We will also target certain species each day. Obviously we will photograph anything interesting along the way, but by having specific targets, you make it almost certain that you will view each animal at some point.
